What We Help With

Struggling With These Common Obedience Problems?

Basic obedience at home is a start but real reliability comes from practicing around other dogs, people, and distractions. That's exactly what JPK9 Academy's group classes are built for.

Common Problem What This Looks Like
Won't Listen With Distractions Follows commands at home but ignores you around other dogs or people..
Pulls on Leash in Public Walks fine in the backyard, drags you toward every distraction outside.
Doesn't Come When Called Recall works indoors but breaks down anywhere with real temptation.
Jumps on People Greets people by jumping, even after basic training at home.
No Reliable Stay Breaks position the moment something interesting happens nearby.
Loses Focus Around Other Dogs Loses all attention on you the moment another dog appears nearby.
Group Obedience Training

What Is Group Obedience Training?

Group obedience training is a structured dog training class where dogs learn obedience skills while practicing around other dogs, people, and real-world distractions. The goal is not simply to teach commands, it is to make those commands reliable when distractions are present.

Private lessons can teach your dog the foundation in a controlled environment. Group obedience classes then give your dog the opportunity to practice those skills around real distractions, helping build better focus, leash manners, recall, and impulse control.

At JPK9 Academy, owners actively participate throughout every session. This is not a drop-off class. You work alongside your dog, receive coaching from the trainer, and learn how to keep the training going at home. The result is a dog that listens not only at home but around the dogs, people, and distractions you actually encounter in everyday life.

How Your Dog Advances in Group Training

Each dog moves forward when the trainer assesses it is ready. Every dog progresses at the right pace for that individual dog.

1

Learn the Command

Each skill is introduced in a structured way. Owners learn the technique alongside their dog and receive specific homework to practice between sessions.

2

Practice With Real-Time Coaching

Juan works with each dog owner pair throughout the session, adjusting the approach based on how each individual dog responds.

3

Build Reliability Around Distractions

Commands are practiced with progressively more challenging conditions as the dog demonstrates consistency in the group environment.

4

Trainer Evaluates Readiness

Advancement is based on what the dog demonstrates in training, not how many sessions it has completed. A dog that needs more time on the foundation gets more time.

5

Off-Leash Work When the Dog Is Ready

Off-leash training begins when the dog has demonstrated reliable obedience and recall on leash and around distractions. It is not tied to a session number.

What is basic obedience dog training?

Basic obedience dog training teaches dogs foundation commands — sit, down, stay, come, and leash manners — in a structured environment. At JPK9 Academy, these skills are practiced around real distractions so they hold up outside the home.

Are dog training classes worth it?

Yes. Consistent, structured training with a professional trainer produces faster and more reliable results than training alone. Group classes also give dogs the opportunity to practice around real distractions — something that is difficult to replicate at home.

What age should a dog start obedience training?

Dogs can start obedience training as early as 8 weeks old. Earlier is generally better — habits formed early are easier to maintain than behaviors that develop over months without structure.
